Welcome
I hope that you enjoy looking at the icons illustrated in this website. If you are interested in discussing a work that you would like me to paint for you, or just want to ask a question, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Unfortunately I do not usually have many icons on hand to sell, but those that are available can be seen on the Icons for Sale page. As you will see, I work in a variety of iconographic mediums - relief carvings and fresco for example as well as panel icons - and so I hope that I will be able to meet your needs.

About Aidan Hart...
Aidan, a member of the Orthodox Church, is a professional iconographer who has been working full-time for more than twenty years.

His sacred icons are found in church and private collections in over twenty countries.

Commissioners include Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos, HRH The Prince of Wales, Hereford Cathedral, Newcastle on Tyne Cathedral, Hexham Abbey, the Deanery of the Antiochian Orthodox Church in Britain for Lichfield Cathedral, and St. John’s Abbey and University, USA, for The Saint John’s Bible.

His sacred icons are made to the highest standards, using traditional materials and techniques. In response to the varied needs of the Christian communities in Britain and abroad, Aidan has developed skill in a wide variety of mediums. These include: egg tempera icons on gessoed wooden panels; genuine fresco (that is, on wet lime plaster); illumination on vellum; relief carving in wood, stone and bone; woodwork such as iconostases; ecclesiastical silverwork; black ink pen illustration.

He has trained in England, where he lives, as well as in Greece where he lived for a year in Thessalonika and two years on Mount Athos. Extensive travels abroad including three times to Russia to study icons have given him knowledge of a wide variety of traditional iconographic styles. He is keen to harmonize each work with its physical and cultural setting, and so for example would often use Celtic motifs on an icon of a Celtic saint.

He is also a tutor to post graduate students of "The Prince's School of Traditional Art" at The Prince’s Foundation, London, and usually leads two week-long icon workshops a year in England or Wales. He has curated three exhibitions of holy icons.
