There is very much an important place for hand made metal items for church and home use. Unlike mass produced works, they can be styled to fit the particular church both in design and size. They can more readily draw on the local or national traditions (such as the rich Celtic and Saxon designs for the British). I am particularly interested in elements of early Byzantine church metal design, say, pre-twelfth century, and where appropriate, in Celtic and Saxon design.
Items that I have made to date include silver lamps (illustrated), reliquaries, cast bronze icons (one for outside on a grave stone, another a one metre high cross), silver censers, pendant crosses in silver and gold, and a bronze altar cross with oil lamps and inlaid with semi-precious stones (illustrated). Other items suitable in metal are Gospel covers (possibly also inlaid with stones and carved icons), chalices and polielie (a traditional type of chandelier)
